Furnace Repair- The Most Expensive Furnace Parts To Fix

The last thing you need during winter is a heating emergency. Furnace repairs, in particular, can be costly and inconvenient.

To start with, there’s never a convenient time for your furnace to break down. But giving your furnace the care it deserves will pay off, literally. It can save you from having to pay for costly repairs, or buying expensive parts such as the blower motor, the draft inducer motor, and the circuit board.

The Most Expensive Furnace Parts to Fix

1. The blower motor

Your blower motor is built to last as long as the furnace itself, 10 to 20 years. It’s worth replacing if your furnace is less than 12 years old, and has been regularly maintained.

On average, replacing the blower motor can cost around $580, including labor, although the  typical range is $250 to $900. For more complicated units, you may have to pay $2000 to get the blower motor replaced.

2. The circuit board

Depending on your usage, the unit’s condition, and how often it’s maintained, a furnace circuit board can last 10-15 years on average.

Circuit board failure is often caused by voltages and surges, as well as dirt and dust buildup. To replace it, be ready to pay around $300 to $650, on average. The part alone will cost anywhere from $50 to $300, while labor costs $250 to $350.

3. The draft inducer motor

The draft inducer motor is located inside your unit near the heat exchanger. A bad one will create alarming sounds and reduce your furnace’s efficiency. Once the draft inducer motor gives out completely, it will keep your furnace from providing heat.

On average, the cost to replace the inducer motor is $465, including labor. If the part is still under warranty, and you pay only for the labor, you might pay only $245, more or less.

Overall, how much does furnace repair cost?

On average, you’ll pay around $300 to get your furnace repaired. But the final amount varies, depending on the parts you need to replace or the severity of the problem. It can go as low as $65, or as high as $1500.
