Read These Air Conditioning FAQs before Buying a Unit

An HVAC unit is a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit responsible for heating and cooling the air at home, much like a regular air conditioning unit. While there are similarities, many people do not know much about HVAC units and how they work. So before getting this kind of air conditioning in your home or office, read the following FAQs:

What’s the One That I Need (Not Want)?

There are many factors to consider when purchasing an air conditioner unit, such as the size of the unit, the type of unit, the features and benefits of the unit, and the price.

  • Size is a vital aspect to consider when purchasing an air conditioning unit. The unit must be the proper size for the room or space in which it will be used. If the unit is too small, it cannot cool the space properly, resulting in energy inefficiency. Too large, and the air conditioning unit will cool the space too quickly without removing the humidity from the air. This will make your space very uncomfortable.

Before buying an HVAC unit, you must talk to a professional to ensure you’re getting the right size for your needs. Additionally, you’ll have to consider the insulation, number of occupants and windows, building type, etc.

  • The type of air conditioning unit is also an important factor to consider.
  • The most common air conditioning unit you’ll find is the split AC. This device is split into two parts: The indoor unit is placed inside the room or area that needs to be cooled, and the outdoor unit is placed outside the room or space for proper draining.
  • The mini-split or portable AC unit is another type of air conditioner unit. This is small and can be moved from one room to another. This unit is less effective than the split AC unit but less expensive.
  • The central air conditioner unit is the most expensive and is used to cool multiple rooms or spaces simultaneously. This type of unit is the most effective at cooling large spaces.
  • The floor-mounted AC unit is usually placed on the floor and is used to cool one room or space. This unit is less effective than the split AC unit but less expensive.
  • The window AC unit is usually found in individual rooms or offices. They fit in a space next to a window and often cool one room or a small area.

What Are the Costs?

The air conditioning installation cost varies depending on the type of system, the amount of labor required, and the costs of any ductwork or additional accessories. A basic oil or gas furnace can cost around $2,000, while a more complex system with ductwork can cost up to $5,000, which already includes material and labor expenses.

You also must consider additional accessories. Adding air purifiers or humidifiers to supplement your air conditioning can also increase costs. If your home’s electrical system needs to be updated to accommodate the new HVAC system, that can add to the total expense.
